Jesus - my Refuge

"I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High."
                                                                                       Psalm 9:1-2  NKJV

We should never be half-hearted in our praise towards God; He is never that way with us. He gives us all He has got, and He deserves the same from us - our whole heart. How would we feel if God acted in a half-hearted manner towards us? Let's be honest, some days we can't be bothered to spare more than a few moments - if that, with Him. He gave His whole heart for each one of us on the cross, so surely, He deserves our whole heart.

Here, the Psalmist says it all, 'I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High'. He is so worthy of this. It speaks of being thankful for everything He has done and will do, in the future. In fact, our rejoicing in Him includes boasting about what He has done. People will think we are very strange indeed, doing this but, it is all part of spreading the word about Jesus. We have a personal relationship with Him and that is something to boast about. Other people can have this too, if they ask Him into their lives. Boasting includes speaking about Him, singing about Him and echoing the words of David in Psalm 8:1 'O LORD, our LORD, how excellent is Your name in all the earth.'

Jesus is also our safe place to run to - our place of safety and refuge. Believers are often victimised, persecuted and worse. In troubled times, He provides shelter, protection and relief. Even missionaries out in isolated areas throughout the world, receive this safety pact. Yes, it is true that many have died because of their faith but, they died loving what they were doing for Jesus, and as awful as it is, they are now with Jesus receiving their reward. This is the thing about serving Jesus. He died for us and, at times, we must be prepared to do the same because, we have given Him our lives and no longer live for ourself, but for Jesus:

'I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.'   Galatians 2:20

There is nothing the enemy can do to us; we're with Jesus alive here on the earth or, with Him in heaven - our safe place. We have everything to praise Him for.

If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now:
Lord Jesus, I have sinned
I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today.

In Jesus' Name. Amen'
