"So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” Exodus 4:2 NKJV
It's always a little scary when God calls us to do or say something. A normal reaction to this can be, 'Was that me?' Sometimes, we doubt God and we tend to doubt ourselves and this, can be a normal reaction.
Here, God has called Moses to go to Egypt and speak to Pharaoh about releasing His people. Straightaway, Moses gets into a flap and pleads with God, 'I'm not eloquent Lord' v10. Moses was thinking of all the reasons that he couldn't go and do this, even to the point where he doubted whether he was capable. We need to remember that God knew about all of these problems Moses had, especially with what comes out of his mouth. God's reply was, 'Who has made man's mouth?'
Prior to this, God had asked Moses what was in his hand? Moses had replied that it was a rod. God then told him to cast it on the ground and it became a snake. When Moses picked it up by its tail. it became a rod again. God then told him that he would be with him. There were three quicks signs to show that God was true to His Word:
(1) The rod became a snake and was changed back to a rod again Exodus 4:1-4
(2) Moses hand became leprous; and then back to normal again v6-7
(3) Water on dry land became blood V9
And still Moses was deliberating.
Before we shake our head at Moses behaviour, ask yourself, what would you have done here? This was scary stuff God was wanting Moses to do and in the end, Moses' brother was commissioned to help him.
We need to discover our gifts and be confident with this. You were born an original not a copy of another person. It's you that God wants to use, not Tom, Dick or Harry, whoever they are. God will choose whom He wants to choose. When He redeemed you, that was part of the deal. So discover your gift and place it into God's hand
God was aware of Moses weaknesses and He's aware of yours too. Take a look at this next scripture:
'Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God'
1 Corinthians 1: 26-29 New Living Standard
God knows what He is doing even though we don't at times. He has a task in mind for you, you may not have realised it yet, but He will remind you when the time is right. It could be something mega. Then again, it may seem insignificant. Whatever it is, you are privileged that God has chosen you. In His eyes, there is no-one quite like you; you are that original. Therefore, pump up you confidence and give what you have to Him. Put it into God's hand and He will do the rest.
If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now
Lord Jesus, I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today. In Jesus' Name. Amen
