Conclusion

"But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.  29So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.  30But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him."
                                                                      Luke 15:28 - 30   NKJV

The older brother was definitely in a strop but, let's be honest. This had not been a recent situation. It had been built up over the years possibly because, being the eldest, he would have had to do extra chores around the homestead because, the parents would have been busy with the younger son. He may also have succumbed to jealousy because the younger son was the centre of attention where he, wasn't even allowed to have a young goat to offer to his friends when they came to visit. Yet, the sky was the limit for this 'son of yours' v30. And this is what we know. His relationship with his father may have suffered too because of it.

Communication in a family is so helpful. Why carry things around that are frustrating you? That's like being a bear with a sore head. If he had discussed this with his father in private. It's always dangerous to do this because, you are exposing yourself. It must be the right time and the right words and temperament should be adopted. It may take a little time for things to change, especially if it is revealed that your are the guilty party - the one who is wracked with jealousy. But even this can help you see it for yourself. Your lack of security may well be of your own doing.

There are always tensions within families and we have to work hard to keep the peace. Everyone is different but if things are done properly, there is a way through to victory.

If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now:

'Lord Jesus, I have sinned and I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today.

In Jesus' Name. Amen'
