More on Moses Part 2

"But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”14Then the LORD became angry with Moses. “All right,” he said. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you. 15Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do. 16Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say. 17And take your shepherd’s staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you.”   Exodus 4:13-17   NLT

Moses was adamant that he didn't want to take on this commission. He exhausted all the excuses possible until God became angry with him. God suggested that he took is brother Aaron with him to do the talking, but they must be Moses' words. Moses was pleased about this.

Moses had finally received peace about the situation. Initially he had begun asking 'Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?' He had had a negative response to whatever God was saying to Him. but now he knew he wouldn't have to go alone, he felt more confident. Most people when faced with something they are uncertain about doing, feel better when they know they will not be alone. How do you feel about this? Do you prefer to have some support?

Really, God had given Moses all the assurance he needed. He would go with Him, help him and He even gave him signs to perform with his rod. Also He used the name I AM. Thinking about this, surely Moses could see that this meant: I AM He who - Feeds you, Heals you and Looks after you. But Moses appears to have missed this. But, we need to be careful that we don't. Whatever we need, 'I AM able'.

Eventually the Israelites were rescued, crossed the Red Sea in a miraculous way with Moses performing this: "And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.  14The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”15And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.  16But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.  17And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.  18Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”  Numbers 14:13-18

And it was as God said it would be. The Isralites crossed over safely but, Pharaoh's men perished as his men tried to follow, because the water returned to its normal state.

None of the original families made it to The Promised Land. They argued, moaned and groaned and wouldn't agree with anything. The spent 40 years wandering around and perished instead. Only Joshua and Caleb out of the originals made it across the Jordan into this land. Even Moses didn't make it. They had all needed water to drink, so God told Moses to speak to the rock at the waters of Kadesh. Moses in his frustration didn't do this. Instead he struck the rock twice, with his rod. Pure water came out but. he had disobeyed God. He had taken the glory from God by doing this and transferred the glory on to himself. Therefore, he was not allowed to go over to The Promised Land but died, in sight of it in the land of Moab.

Moses was a mighty man of God, the only one who had ever seen God but, like us, he was capable of making mistakes. For him, the last one prevented him living in The Promised Land. Don't cut corners, do exactly what God tells you, nothing more and realise that you can do what God says you can. Don't argue with Him, just do it.

If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now

Lord Jesus, I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today. In Jesus' Name. Amen
