'Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. ' Exodus 2:11-12 NKJV
As we know, Moses was a Hebrew but had been raised in Egypt by Pharaoh's daughter for 40 years of his life. One day, he saw an Egyptian supervisor brutally abusing another Hebrew. So, Moses, killed him, hiding his body in the sand. He felt that no one had witnessed this but, they had and in desperation to avoid the wrath of Pharaoh, he fled and settled in Midian, where he married and became a shepherd.
Moses hadn't come clean about what he had done. He just assumed no one knew, but God did. We can never hide our sin away. When we hide our mistakes and sin, they have a way of coming back to haunt us. This is the reason for Moses' hasty departure. It is far better to face our mistakes straightaway so they can be put to rest once and for all. Although, he had done wrong, there were no Laws yet, but, it was still murder. Having said this, God can always use our mistakes and turn them into good. Here, He, set Moses up to later be a great leader and bring God's people to freedom from Egypt.
Good leaders still have skeletons in their cupboard. No one is perfect. Moses was no exception. He suffered weaknesses in various ways. His self-doubt, caused him to refuse God's initial call. He also acted impulsively without thinking or asking God first. Adding to this, his patience was also a problem every now and then. But, God's not looking for perfection when He chooses us to work for Him. If he did, there would be no one working for Him at all. However, though Moses had many warts in his life, he was faithful and his heart was in the right place, and God knew it.
As I've said, none of us have to be perfect to be greatly used by God. Let us not forget, we are still a work in progress but, we are getting there. So if you feel that God could never use you, think again. He can use who He chooses. David was a young skinny shepherd, Paul helped his authorities torture and murder God's people before He came to God himself, and Peter was a rough and ready fisherman. That is just for a start. I have met ex-prisoners, alcoholics and drug users who have been greatly used by God. The sky is the limit. So don't think you're beyond being chosen to work for Him. So be ready, He may just do that!
If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now
Lord Jesus, I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today. In Jesus' Name. Amen
