"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." Psalm 23:5-6 NKJV
As a born again, spirit-filled believer of Jesus Christ, you qualify to be blessed whenever He chooses to give this blessing to you. This can be recognised as daily because, each day that we wake up is a blessing in itself. Many would love to be able to do this but, their life is over and they have gone to their designated destination.
Each day we wake up is a blessing - it is life and without it, we are lost. Life is is probably the greatest of blessings. Your health may not be so good, you may have troubles of some kind and money may be tight, but, you have life and I encourage you to grab hold of it with both hands because you never know when it may be taken away from you. As a Christian, when our earthly life is over, we have our life in heaven to look forward to. That said, there may be lots more that Jesus wants to do through you so, take care of yourself and enjoy your life.
In verse 5, we read that, 'My cup runs over,' in other words, this means that our cup overflows with blessing. I remember in our early Christian days, starting out as a pastor in training with very little to live on financially, but, we never went short of anything we needed. The bills were paid, we had food and the best of secondhand clothes but, we were happy and God never let us down. He also gave us a car, with everything catered for - repairs, tax, servicing etc etc. We were under His blessing and anointing. Now, nearly fifty years later, we continue to be in blessing and our cup really overflows. When God's Word says that He will bless you, He means it.
Living this way requires faith - you must believe that God will do what He says He will. You must also trust that He will never let you down. As you give your money in offerings and tithes, He sees this and pours more back into your pot. You can never outgive God.
And to add to all of this, our future is taken care of. We will dwell in God's house forever. Some people hesitate here and say that we must not be too hasty, heaven is uncertain, we shouldn't take it for granted. That is not true. heaven is certain for all of those who have accepted Jesus has their Lord and Saviour. King David, in this psalm, said that his dwelling place will be in the house of the Lord. This includes us too, God has no favourites. We're all one and if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord, you will arrive in heaven one day. God does not break His promises.
If you don't know Jesus or, have fallen away, why not say this prayer right now
Lord Jesus, I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me and be my Lord and Saviour. Please come into my heart, fill me with Your Spirit and give me a brand new start today. In Jesus' Name. Amen
